Drawing the Beauty of Plants

This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday January 7

10:00 AM  –  1:00 PM

Program led by: Kathie Miranda

This program runs on Thursday mornings for 6 weeks.

Class Dates: Jan. 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, Feb. 4th, 11th

Class Time: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Explore the exquisite diversity of the plant world using specimens from your local market or green grocer. Botanicals often display complex shapes, forms, patterns and textures that challenge the artist. Learn how to simplify this complexity in order to draw them accurately, while maintaining three-dimensional form. Each week, we’ll draw a new specimen such as cacti, fruits, vegetables, exotic blooms, and more. The instructor will share tips for advanced graphite techniques including drawing with an eraser; using negative space for impact; and inventing pencil strokes to expand your repertoire of linear and tonal mark making. In addition, complete a “Techniques Sampler” of new skills as they are presented: 3” studies to be kept as a valuable reference.

Class will be held on Zoom for the entire term. If you have never used Zoom before, provided below is a link to set it up on your computer and/or device: https://zoom.us/download

The structure of our Zoom class meeting will be similar to our live, 3-hour classroom experience: two or three demonstrations will be presented followed by time to work on your project “together in class”. The last 30 minutes of class will be devoted to a critique and Q&A session. A private photo-sharing group will be created on the Cluster app where we can download and view our completed projects. Cluster details will be available in the first class.

Completion of Introduction to Botanical Illustration or similar drawing experience is recommended by not required.
